10 things to look out for in the new kit video
FC Barcelona now have their new first kit for next season. The 2024/25 season begins with plenty of excitement surrounding the young talented squad and their new coach Hansi Flick and also a new kit which commemorates the Club’s 125th anniversary in November.
The video begins with a mixture of historic images from Barça’s history, from Guardiola to the first European Cup success and Koeman’s goal, not forgetting Luis Enrique and the success of the women’s team. All that is for starters as we carry on with a collection of details and references to the blaugranes’ long and successful history:
1 –Barça and Brazil
The video starts with Ronaldinho wearing the new Barça shirt. The Brazilian, a blaugrana legend with a much loved smile, is a great example of the long relationship between Barça and Brazil. The video moves from Ronaldinho to Raphinha, one of the current first team players and from him to Lamine Yamal, who could be a worthy successor to one of the great players from the Club’s history, Ronaldinho.
2 – Ronaldinho, Aitana, and a ball with great significance
During the video a football serves as a link between the details but maybe not too many people will notice that the only people who interact with the ball are Ronaldinho and Aitana. Why? Because both are Ballon d’Or winners with Barça – Ronaldinho in 2005 and Aitana in 2023.
3 – Iniesta’s move
One of the most notable cameos comes from Andrés Iniesta. The former Barça player appears in the kitchen making a ‘croquette’ – the name of his famous move on the pitch when he shifts the ball from one foot to another.
4 – Clásico memories: Piqué’s hand and Puyol’s goal
There is always room for a Clásico. The great fixture has provided some unforgettable memories such as the day Gerard Piqué celebrated Barça’s fifth goal by counting his fingers in the 5-0 win over Real Madrid in the 2010/11 season at Spotify Camp Nou. In the video a girl in the crowd responds to Piqué with the same gesture. Carles Puyol’s great header against Real Madrid in the Santiago Bernabéu is remember, as his kiss for the captain’s armband, recreated in playground across the land.
5 – MSN together
A collection of iconic moments has to included the embrace between the MSN, Messi, Neymar and Suárez, after a goal against Atlético Madrid. In the video the moment is recreated by three girls in the playground with unerring accuracy.
6 – Pedri and Fermín, cartoonist inspired by a great
The video can boast the presence of one of Catalonia’s great artist, the cartoonist and caricaturist Pilarín Bayés. The 83 year old from Vic is blessed with two willing students in Fermín and Pedri who appear drawing on a canvas whilst Bayés explains the artistry behind Barça’s style of play.
7 – Cubarsí, Catalan chef
One of the key themes of the video is what it means to be Catalan. There is footage of the famous ‘human towers’ and also a moment when young Catalan defender Pau Cubarsí demonstrates how to make pa amb tomàquet (tomato bread), one of the cornerstones of the nation’s cuisine, to the delight of Ronaldo Araujo and Robert Lewandowski who then get to taste the result.
8 – Reverence for the queen
In recent years a lot of the Club’s history has been written the Barça Women squad, and in particular, Alexia Putellas. The double Ballon d’Or winner took a famous bow in the 5-2 win in the Champions League against Real Madrid and a young boy recreates the moment in the street in front of an image of Alexia from that day at Spotify Camp Nou in front of nearly 92,000 fans.
9 – The Flying Dutchman
One of the most famous goals in Barça history was scored by none other than Johan Cruyff. The Dutchman flying volley against Atlético in December 1973 is re-enacted on the school playground where the purest football is played.
10 – Call between Balde, Pau Gasol and Stoichkov
Finally, and briefly, we see Alejandro Balde at the Ciutat Esportiva on a videocall – with who? None other than Pau Gasol and Hristo Stoichkov, two blaugrana legends and personalities outside of sport also.
