28-year-old versatile star set to continue at FC Barcelona amidst departure rumors
In the last few days, there has been significant involvement in FC Barcelona’s player sales. From the likes of veteran Gundogan and young prodigies like Mika Faye and Julian Araujo departing from the Catalan club and others like Vitor Roque and Lenglet on the verge of leaving, Barca has been on the lookout for making salary space for Olmo’s registration.
Regarding the club’s ongoing player sales scenario, another name had been widely considered as an important asset from various European clubs. Being the versatile player he is, Andreas Christensen has been the target of various European clubs. In fact, being closely rumored with Newcastle United, the 28-year-old was looked at as the missing piece of their lineup by the Magpies club.
A few days ago, Diario SPORT reported that Christensen had significant interest from the Premier League and could be an economical solution for Barcelona, especially since he arrived for free. Not only Premier League, but reports from Barca insider Achraf Ben Ayad mentioned that Al Ittihad fans in Saudi Arabia had launched a hashtag calling for Christensen’s signing.
However, all such departure rumors have been turned down, as recent sources suggest that Christensen is not thinking about leaving Barça. Being happy at the Blaugrana club, the Danish star is focused on the new Barca project under Flick. In fact, Mundo Deportivo reports that the technical staff considers Christensen a very important piece within the Barcelona squad.
Being a seasoned European star, the Danishman’s experience, quality, and versatility to play at a good level both at center-back and pivot can be crucial for the club. Thus, as it stands, it is clear that neither Christensen is willing to make a move nor Barcelona is interested in selling him.
However, Christensen’s availability seems to be a worrying issue, as the star hasn’t been training recently due to an injury issue. As sources suggest, the versatile star has discomfort in the Achilles, and thus, chances are significant that he will miss the game against Athletic. Speaking about Christensen’s injury issues, Flick told,
“”I’ve spoken to Christensen; he has some problems, and he trained alone today. We have to look after him.””
– Hansi Flick
Being one of the most experienced players in the Catalan club, Christensen’s absence would surely mean something for FC Barcelona. However, the Blaugrana club would hope to have him back as soon as possible for the crucial matchwinner he is.
