Araujo, Raphinha, Torres: Which players could leave Barcelona?
It’s an important summer for Barcelona for a number of reasons, not least the make up of the squad under new coach, Hansi Flick.
The German tactician needs to hit the ground running to have any chance of overhauling Real Madrid, and in order to do just that, the squad will have to undergo something of a revamp.
Let’s take a look at the likelihood of certain players leaving before a ball has been kicked in anger in 2024/25…
Sergi Roberto
The club captain’s career at the club is almost certainly coming to its conclusion.
Multiple offers have reportedly been received for a player whose contract extension hasn’t been forthcoming after Xavi’s exit.
He always be remembered for that goal and his fine contribution across the past few seasons, but his time has come to say goodbye. (Likelihood of leaving 9.5/10)
Fermin Lopez
The subject of an apparent €30m bid from Manchester United earlier in the month, which was flatly – and rightly – turned down.
One of the players that is the future of this new Barcelona and he isn’t going anywhere – at any price. (0/10)
Raphinha
One of Barcelona’s most exciting players on his day, though he can be a little hit and miss at times.
Will dig his heels in if it seems that Barca want to cash in, but that’s because they could command a hefty fee for him.
Ultimately, the Brazilian might just have to accept that the club want rid of him for no other reason than how much money he’ll make them. (7/10)
Mikayil Faye
Still just 19 years of age, Mikayil Faye has been consistently talked about over the past few months but still isn’t quite ready to be a first-team regular.
His recent social media post suggests he wants to stay at the club rather than take up the multiple offers that have come his way. Barca also seem reluctant to part company with Faye, not least because of his versatility. (3/10)
Ronald Araujo
A player who has been rumoured as leaving for a few months now. His unwillingness to answer questions on his future while with Uruguay is also a little concerning.
Talks over a contract extension don’t seem to be going anywhere, and the disappointing way in which he ended the season showed up his obvious shortcomings.
A tower of strength when on form, he’s another that could command a hefty fee, and that may be what swings the deal for Laporta et al. (9/10)
Ferran Torres
Barcelona are likely to find it hard to shift The Shark.
It’s obvious that Ferran has quality but he doesn’t show it often enough, and just like Ousmane Dembele when he was at the club he wastes far more presentable chances than he scores.
Can’t really be considered anything other than an impact sub… that generally doesn’t make an impact. (6.5/10)
Marc Guiu
A player whose history-making debut goal will never be forgotten but who is unlikely to have a future at the club after struggling for first team minutes at the end of the season.
Though he had Barca Atletic commitments to attend to, were he considered good enough, a first-team berth would’ve taken precedence.
A move to Chelsea looks to be on the cards with Guiu heading towards the exit for just €6 million. (10/10)
Vitor Roque
A really strange situation is developing with Vitor Roque who only arrived in January and has played just 320 minutes in La Liga for Barcelona.
After Xavi was reportedly sacked for, among other things, his unwillingness to play the striker, now it appears that the club are in discussions with Fiorentina and others regarding his sale.
Is he just not good enough at this level or is there something else going on? (7/10)
