Barça Women returning to Mexico for second Camp3onas Tour
The FC Barcelona women’s football team are heading back to Mexico for the second edition of the Camp3onas Tour from Monday 10 June to Friday 14 June. They will be playing a friendly on Wednesday 12 June against Club Chivas Femenil at the Estadio Akron, one of the venues for the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
After the success of the first visit in the summer of 2023, the hope is that this one can again break attendance records. The winners of last year’s UEFA Champions League and La Liga F will be the star attractions against one of the strongest teams in the Liga MX, twice winners of the trophy and also of one Champion of Champions Cup.
Barça will be crossing the Atlantic immediately after their league clash with Real Betis and once they are back will have one more game to play against Valencia on June 16.
The game is being organised by Soccer Media Solutions and will be accompanied by a series of institutional events in Mexico, the times and venues of which will be announced shortly.
Mexico, key territory in the women’s game
Mexico is a key part of FC Barcelona’s commercial strategy, and also shares a proud history of women’s football in a country where there has been exponential growth in terms of attendances. 58,000 people watched the final of the Closing Tournament 2023 between America and Pachuca at the Estadio Azteca, while 42,000 people watched the second leg of the Opening Tournament 2023 final between Tigres and America, with 6.2 million people tuning in to watch on television.
There have been close ties between FC Barcelona and Mexico over the years. Former blaugrana stars Jenni Hermoso, Andrea Pereira and Andrea Falcón all switched to the Mexican championship, while Maribel Domínguez moved in the other direction in January 2005. Patty Pérez in 2005/2006, Kenti Robles in 2011/2012 and Pamela Tajonar in 2018 have all represented Mexican football at Barça.
