Barcelona academy midfielder will be an important player for Flick, contract renewal imminent
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have big plans for Marc Casado next season under their new manager, Hansi Flick, and they are expecting him to sign a new contract soon, which will keep him at the club until June 2027.
This news comes just one day after club president Joan Laporta praised Casado, the captain of Barça Athletic. Laporta confirmed that Casado would be joining the first team next season.
“In the quarry, we have Marc Casado, who has had an extraordinary season. We’re not talking about players, we’re talking about positions,” said the president.
“He’s gonna be part of the first team,” he added.
Recently, we reported that Barcelona had reached a verbal agreement with Casado on a new deal. This decision was made after both the club and Casado agreed that he would be an important part of the first team under Flick.
Barcelona expecting a lot from Casado
The 20-year-old midfielder has been on the fringes of the first-team squad for about a year, but he has not had many chances to play.
So far, he has played five matches for the senior team and with the club looking for a new defensive midfielder this summer, he might be seen as a solution.
Meanwhile, Former manager Xavi also saw potential in Casado. Back in May, Xavi expressed his belief that Casado should stay with the team.
He wanted to see how he could use Casado during the pre-season, and his report suggested that the midfielder should be promoted to the senior team.
A fresh contract for Casado
Although Casado’s current contract ends at the end of this month, Barcelona have the option to extend it unilaterally until 2025.
However, rather than just extending the existing contract, Barcelona want to negotiate a completely new deal. This new contract would likely keep him with the team until 2027, with the possibility of adding an extra year.
The club’s confidence in Casado is clear. They see him as a valuable player for the future, and they are willing to commit to him for the long term.
This new deal would give him more stability and show the club’s belief in his potential to become a key player for Barcelona in the coming years.
