Barcelona, Besiktas negotiating Clément Lenglet loan deal – report

One of Barcelona’s big priorities in the transfer window is getting rid of unwanted players to create the necessary salary cap space to sign their top targets in the market, and one of those unwanted names in Clément Lenglet.

The French center-back is still on Barça’s books and a permanent transfer seems very unlikely this summer, so it looks as though Lenglet is headed for a third straight season out on loan. And after a couple of uninspiring seasons in the Premier League, there is a chance the defender could be headed to Turkey.

That’s according to Diario AS, who report that Besiktas have made an offer for a season-long loan in which they’ll pay half of Lenglet’s wages. That was the same formula Barça accepted when Lenglet when to Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa respectively in the last two years, and given the Blaugrana’s desperation to get at least some of Lenglet’s salary off the books they are likely to say yes again.

The decision is now basically up to the player himself, who might decide to explore the market a little longer before deciding if a move to Turkey is best for his career. Besiktas have made a similar salary offer to former Atlético Madrid center-back Mario Hermoso as a backup option in case Lenglet’s deal isn’t completed, but the Barça man seems to be their preferred choice as of now.
