Barcelona captain has not answered renewal proposal since November 2023

According to a recent report by Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona’s efforts to renew Frenkie de Jong’s contract have hit a standstill.

The outlet mentions that the club has had a renewal offer on the table for De Jong since November 2023, but so far, the midfielder has not responded to it.

His current contract is set to expire in June 2026, and this lack of communication from the midfielder has left Barcelona’s management in a state of confusion.

The uncertainty surrounding De Jong’s future is causing concern for the club. As the contract expiration date approaches, Barcelona are becoming increasingly anxious to explore other options.

The midfielder is a key figure in the team, not only because of his significant role on the pitch but also due to his position as the third captain.

Despite his importance, there is no clarity about his future plans, which complicates the club’s ability to plan for the upcoming seasons.

Barcelona have been making consistent efforts to secure De Jong’s commitment to a new contract. However, his lack of response is putting additional pressure on the club to consider alternative strategies.

If this situation continues without resolution, Barcelona are preparing to take further action. By the summer of 2025, if De Jong still has not agreed to a new deal, the club is likely to put him up for sale.

At the same time, Barcelona will actively seek a suitable replacement, with Joshua Kimmich being a potential candidate for the role.

In summary, Barcelona’s efforts to extend Frenkie de Jong’s contract have so far been unsuccessful, and the ongoing uncertainty is pushing the club to look for alternatives.

With his current deal set to run until 2026, the situation remains tense, and the club is preparing for potential changes in the near future.
