Barcelona close in on renewal agreement with La Masia midfield jewel
In a pleasing development, Barcelona are closing in on an agreement to renew the contract of teenage midfield prodigy Marc Bernal, reports Mundo Deportivo.
Negotiations between the academy player and the Catalans are progressing at a good pace and sources at the club suggest that the talks are almost closed.
One for the future
One of the most talented young prospects to be coming through La Masia in recent years, Bernal is rated very highly at Barcelona.
At the club, they have a lot of confidence in a player who is just 17 but is already making great strides, as was seen in his performance for Barça Atletic against Ibiza, which will have sent a message to first-team boss Hansi Flick.
Barça consider Bernal to be a midfielder of the future and one of the essential pieces of this new generation of youth players.
His current contract expires in 2026 and has a low termination clause of just €6 million. As such, the Blaugrana are working to tie him down to a new deal.
The club’s proposal is for one more year and two more optional ones like any other youth player’s contract and to raise the exit clause to €20 million.
Bernal wants to stay
Bernal’s desire to continue playing for Barcelona, in spite of the offers he is receiving, has favoured the progress in talks, with those in the offices applauding the determination of the player.
The 17-year-old feels valued by the club to the extent that he is closing the doors to all the teams that are knocking on his door.
Teams from the Premier League, Bundesliga and Serie A have asked about his situation, trying to approach him with tempting economic proposals. Marc Bernal, however, is only thinking about the Blaugrana.
And, a new deal is only a matter of time now.
