Barcelona could sell another young defensive prospect after Mika Faye amid Serie A interest
On Thursday, it was confirmed that Barcelona have reached an agreement with Rennes for the sale of 20-year-old defensive prospect Mika Faye.
The Senegalese international joined the Catalans only last year, arriving for a fee of €1.5 million, and is now set to leave in a deal worth €12 million with the club retaining a buyback clause worth over €35 million.
Mamadou Mbacke could follow suit
Following the decision to sell Mika Faye, SPORT now reports that Barcelona could offload another young centre-back in the form of Mamadou Mbacke.
The 21-year-old arrived at Barça last year on loan from LAFC and was Faye’s partner at the heart of the defence in Rafa Marquez’s reserve team.
Even though he missed the last few months of the previous season through injury, Barcelona saw enough to sign him permanently for €2 million – half the fee that they had initially agreed with LAFC last year.
The Catalans managed to do so by giving the North American club a percentage of the future sale.
Mbacke signed a contract with Barcelona until 2026 with the option of extending it for two more years, with the idea being that he could venture into the first-team dynamics with time.
However, now, it has emerged that two clubs from the Italian Serie A have shown an interest in the 21-year-old, who is still not back to full fitness and could return in September or October.
This could change Barcelona’s plans with regard to Mbacke and his future as the Catalans might consider parting ways with the Senegalese defender as they continue to look for ways to raise cash.
