Barcelona dealt devastating injury blow as key defender out for two months
In what comes as a bitter blow for Barcelona, key defender Andreas Christensen is set to be out of action for close to two months, reports Alex Pintanel.
The 28-year-old Danish centre-back missed training today on the eve of the La Liga clash against Athletic Club tomorrow.
It was reported that the defender’s absence from training was due to a physical issue although there was no indication about the severity of it.
Christensen out for two months
Now it is being reported that Christensen is suffering from an injury that will keep him out of the field for about two months.
It remains to be confirmed whether it is related to the tendonitis that has plagued him in recent months.
During Thursday’s session, the former Chelsea man did not take the training pitch and stayed with the first-team doctors to evaluate the setback. Today, he worked inside the Ciutat Esportiva and was not seen on the field.
Christensen struggled with a niggling ankle issue during the last season as well, which even led to former manager Xavi Hernandez using him carefully and sparingly during the final phase of the season.
Now, the 28-year-old is set to be sidelined for close to two months, although the exact nature of his injury is yet to be confirmed.
This also puts an end to any speculation about his future as Christensen had been linked with a summer exit in recent days with Barcelona needing to raise cash and cut down his salary.
With the defender now out for two months, a transfer is pretty much ruled out.
