Barcelona defender could leave for La Liga rivals in €15 million deal

With only a week left before the summer transfer window closes, things are starting to pick up pace at FC Barcelona as they look to finalise some departures.

Ilkay Gundogan, Vitor Roque, and Mika Faye are already confirmed to leave the club while exits for Clement Lenglet and possibly a couple more players are being worked upon.

As has been reported in recent days, Eric Garcia is one such player who could be on the move even though he was said to be a part of Hansi Flick’s plans for the new season.

Eric to return to Girona for €15 million?

Now, SPORT reports that Girona are working to re-sign Eric Garcia after having him on loan at the club last season.

This time, however, it would be on a permanent transfer with a fee of around €15 million being talked about.

Girona have made no secret of their desire to bring the 23-year-old centre-half back to the club after he impressed under Michel last season, even finishing as La Liga’s top-scoring defender.

Garcia, for his part, had said earlier this month that he would be staying at Barcelona this summer, but would be open to the possibility of returning to Girona where he would receive guaranteed minutes.

At Barça, the Olympics gold medalist would have to compete for minutes with Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez, Ronald Araujo (once he returns from injury), and Andreas Christensen who has no intentions of leaving.

As such, a move to Girona is not ruled out and the €15 million fee that is being mentioned would be chalked up as complete profit considering that Barcelona signed Eric for free from Manchester City.
