Barcelona defensive outcast on the radars of Real Sociedad, wages an issue
The transfer window has been off to a very slow start for FC Barcelona despite the club being linked with several incomings and departures.
There have been no significant exits thus far and as a result, the signings of top targets like Nico Williams and Dani Olmo are yet to materialise.
One of the several players who has been linked with a departure this summer is Clement Lenglet.
Back after a loan spell at Aston Villa, the French ace has no place in Hansi Flick’s plans at Barça. Furthermore, his high wages are also an issue for the Catalans.
Real Sociedad interest
Barcelona have encountered hurdles in their bid to offload Lenglet, though, with not enough suitors and those interested unwilling to take on his wages.
Now, Mundo Deportivo reports that La Liga club Real Sociedad have shown an interest in signing the Barcelona defensive outcast in the ongoing transfer window.
La Real are in the market for a new central defender after having sold Robin Le Normand to Atletico Madrid for €30 million and see Lenglet as an option to fill the void left by the Spaniard’s exit.
The report does not mention whether Sociedad wish to sign him on loan or a permanent transfer.
However, as mentioned earlier, Lenglet’s salary continues to be a hindrance for the Basque outfit, who would not be able to meet the wages he currently earns at Barcelona.
The Blaugrana, for their part, are said to be open to terminating his contract, which runs until 2026, to cut their losses and not keep the player at the club.
There have been talks about interest from Besiktas as well but there has been no movement on that front. So, it now remains to be seen if things with Real Sociedad lead to anything substantial.
