Barcelona director already laying groundwork for 2025 summer window – three positions being eyed
The season has just begun, but FC Barcelona are already planning ahead for the next one. With a measured approach, the club’s football director, Deco, is shaping what could be the squad for the upcoming year, reports SPORT.
Despite the fluid nature of transfers at this stage, the Catalan giants aim to position themselves with potential targets to get ahead of their rivals.
Squad planning underway
In recent weeks, Deco has made progress on several contract renewals for first-team players, like Fermin Lopez and Gerard Martin, some of which could be officially announced during this international break.
Additionally, there are several players whose contracts expire in 2026, and Barcelona hope to have them renewed by next summer or to place them on the market to avoid losing them for free.
On another front, Deco has already begun to explore several names that interest Barcelona for the next season. This involves not only initial enquiries with relevant parties but also meetings with representatives of players who are high on the club’s agenda.
Positions being eyed
As per the report, despite the delicate short-term situation, Barcelona are optimistic about adhering to the one-to-one rule next summer.
This should provide enough leeway to pursue their intended targets – which happen to be at least one proven signing in the attacking department, full-backs and, since Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s injury, a goalkeeper as well.
A notable example of Deco’s recent activities includes his trip to Porto. The Barça director attended the Porto vs. Manchester United match at Estadio do Dragao, where he closely monitored Nico Gonzalez, for whom Barcelona still retains a 50% stake.
Deco also kept an eye on goalkeeper Diogo Costa, who is being considered as a potential signing for the club in anticipation of life after Ter Stegen.
It is important to remember that Barcelona must first address immediate concerns in the winter transfer market.
The agreement with Nike remains incomplete, and it is crucial for the club to generate financial ‘fair play’ in the next three months to register Dani Olmo for the remainder of the season.
As such, there is a possibility that some players may leave the team managed by Hansi Flick in January. But, work is already being done for the summer of 2025, with Deco laying the groundwork for a big window.
