Barcelona face firesale just 24 hours before LaLiga starts with FIVE players not registered including Dani Olmo
Barcelona are facing a firesale just 24 hours before the new LaLiga season begins with the club unable to register FIVE new players.
Barca’s financial problems have been well documented and their issues in registering players has been well documented.
One of those players they are unable to register is new £60million signing Dani Olmo.
The Spanish giants recently swooped to bring the Euro 2024 winner to the Camp Nou from RB Leipzig on a six-year-deal, but it is now unclear exactly when he will make his competitive debut.
According to Spanish news outlet Cadena SER, the registration of Olmo and other Barca players are at risk if the club fails to pay the €100m owed by German company Libero after they acquired 25 per cent of Barca Studios.
Despite the club striking up a deal with catering and hospitality partner Aramark to cover €40m of this cost for the month of October, they are yet to pay the remaining €60m for June.
As things stand, this means that Barcelona are currently unable to register Olmo, as they would not be complying with LaLiga‘s financial fair play regulations.
The fourth other players who are unable to be registered are Inigo Martinez, Vitor Roque, Pau Victor, and Pablo Torre.
Mundo Deportivo report that Barcelona are looking to immediately ship out Mikayil, Clement Lenglet, and Vitor Roque to solve their problems.
There are also some longer term targets for transfers that could still head to the exit door.
Midfielder Frenkie de Jong has been frequently linked with a move away from the club, but is said to be happy and unwilling to leave.
The other potential candidates for sale would be defender Ronald Araujo and former Leeds star Raphinha, although the former’s current four-month lay-off due to a hamstring injury may make business hard to materialise.
The struggle with Olmo’s registration is just the latest saga in the club’s well-documented financial difficulties in recent years.
Previous new signings Memphis Depay, Sergio Aguero and Ferran Torres have all had to wait before being registered in 2021 and 2022 respectively before deals were arranged.
With the season opener just days away, sporting director Deco and president Joan Laporta are under huge pressure to ensure new manager Hansi Flick has a full squad available to him at kick-off.
Barcelona face Valencia in the first game of the season on Saturday and Flick is already facing criticism.
In response, he said: “I know what this team can do. It wasn’t our game, we weren’t good, but in Valencia we’ll do it differently. I’m sure we’ll have another [kind of] performance.”
