Barcelona fans might have to wait until next week to see €55m new signing in action
Earlier in the day, Barcelona formally announced the departure of star midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who has returned to his former club Manchester City.
Gundogan’s exit should allow Barcelona to significantly reduce their wage bill. However, it won’t be enough to help them register new signing Dani Olmo, with the club needing more exits.
Olmo’s participation against Athletic Club unclear
As a result of Barcelona’s economic distress, MARCA reports Dani Olmo’s participation in tomorrow’s game against Athletic Club remains a doubt.
It is unlikely the club can close a few more departures before the game starts. The club’s last resort was to provide La Liga a guarantee through the board members.
Barcelona resorted to a similar action when they signed Jules Kounde. However, it is not easy to get all the necessary documents sent and approved in such a short span of time.
Therefore, it is a possibility Dani Olmo might not be registered before the Athletic Club game, meaning the Spaniard will have to spend another game in the stands.
When will Olmo become available?
After the Athletic Club game is over, Barça’s next encounter is on Tuesday, when they take on Rayo Vallecano.
The Catalans will be hopeful of sealing a few more exits by then, thus enabling them to register Olmo.
Mika Faye and Vitor Roque are two potential deals that could soon be made official, thus adding to Barcelona’s coffers.
Not to mention, the Blaugrana are working on other potential exits, with the future of Eric Garcia, Ansu Fati, Ferran Torres and Pablo Torre also coming into focus.
The next few days, therefore, could prove to be critical as Barça scramble to register their marquee signing this summer.
