Barcelona forward set to miss Brest clash but poised for Las Palmas return – report
Ferran Torres is set to make his return to action in Barcelona’s upcoming La Liga match against Las Palmas, according to a report by Javier Miguel in AS.
This means the forward, who trained with the team today, will not be available for Barcelona’s next UEFA Champions League match against Brest.
Initially, there was hope that Torres might be ready to feature in the upcoming Champions League fixture.
With no further setbacks, Barcelona coach Hansi Flick was confident that Torres could be included in the squad. However, it was uncertain whether he would be in the starting lineup, as the coach would have other options to consider.
Will miss the Champions League tie
The reason Torres will miss the Champions League match is that he only returned to group training on Monday. This session was his first since suffering an injury.
It must be noted that the 24-year-old picked up his injury against Alaves earlier this season and was forced to leave the field just six minutes.
A quick assessment revealed a hamstring tear, and Barcelona confirmed that Torres would be sidelined for around seven to eight weeks.
As a result, Torres has missed several important matches, including home games against Sevilla, Bayern Munich, and Espanyol, as well as away fixtures against Real Sociedad, Real Madrid, and Crvena Zvezda. These were key fixtures in both domestic and European competitions.
Recent updates indicate that the Spaniard is now nearly fit and is in the final stages of his recovery. While it was hoped that the international break would help him regain full fitness faster, it appears that he will not be rushed back into action.
According to the latest reports, Torres will not feature in the Champions League match against Brest and will make his return for Barcelona’s La Liga clash against Las Palmas instead.
