Barcelona Golden Boy not expected to be at 100% fitness until Christmas
It has been close to 300 days since Barcelona lost their Golden Boy, Gavi, to an ACL injury, when he was in action for the Spanish national team.
The 20-year-old midfield wonderkid’s absence has been felt by the team over the past ten months or so, and as such, the Blaugrana are eagerly awaiting his return.
Gavi unlikely to be 100% fit until Christmas
As has already been reported, Gavi has resumed training on the pitch and is working hard to make himself available at Hansi Flick’s disposal at the earliest.
However, SPORT reports that nobody expects the La Masia midfield sensation to be 100% fit until around Christmas this year.
Gavi is said to be in the final phase of his recovery after 296 days of rehabilitation, patience and progress.
The young superstar is gradually progressing and the sensations are very good so far. He has been seen sprinting forward and laterally and on a few days, he has also trained with a lot of intensity with the whole group, leaving Flick surprised.
No hurry
Despite this, Gavi and Barcelona are being patient and are not looking to rush his reappearance ahead of the specified deadlines.
Both the club’s medical services and the player himself prioritise returning to 100% to avoid any relapse and, therefore, no false step will be taken.
The forecast is that he will come back, progressively, during the next month of October, although it will be little by little, because the injury will have kept him out of the field for too many months and it will be necessary to be cautious.
In fact, Gavi is not expected to be 100% fit until Christmas, more than a year after his injury.
The report adds that Gavi’s agent, Ivan de la Pena, has been one of the most important people in this whole process. His experience with cruciate ligament injuries has been fundamental in lifting his spirits during the first months.
Given the nature of the injury and the lengthy absence, it is best for Gavi and Barcelona to err on the side of caution and not risk any mishap by rushing things.
