Barcelona have not issued any ultimatum to key target, Laporta still confident of deal

Barcelona are prepared to activate Nico Williams’ €58 million release clause, but the transfer is currently on hold.

Williams is at a crossroads, grappling with the decision of whether to stay loyal to his boyhood club or embrace the opportunity to join Barcelona.

Following his outstanding performance in UEFA Euro 2024, the Basque winger has attracted significant interest. However, severing ties with the club where he has spent his entire career is proving to be a challenging decision for Nico Williams.

Given his hesitation to move, reports suggested that Barcelona informed Nico Williams that they will not pursue him in the future, making this transfer window his final opportunity to join the club.

Barcelona have not threatened Nico Williams

Contrary to earlier reports, according to SPORT, Barcelona have not communicated such an ultimatum to Nico Williams.

Indeed, the Catalans have not issued any threats that if he does not commit to a move this summer, they will not pursue him again in the future.

However, Barcelona have disclosed to him that if he chooses to stay at his current club, they cannot guarantee that they will make another attempt to sign him in the future.

This provides Williams with some reassurance but still creates a sense of urgency. August is his final opportunity to finalize a transfer, with August 12 being the deadline to return to Athletic Club.

Barcelona’s optimism has not faded

Despite the recent developments, the report adds that while negotiations between the two clubs continue to be intense, Barcelona remains relatively calm about the situation.

The Catalan giants have invested significantly in their pursuit of Williams and club president Joan Laporta remains optimistic and confident that, with favourable financial conditions, the deal could ultimately be successful.

Barcelona aims to unveil a major signing during their pre-season tour in the US, with either Nico Williams or Dani Olmo being the likely candidate.
