Barcelona have two major concerns in pursuit of €50m-rated Nico Williams alternative
With Dani Olmo’s signing in the bag, FC Barcelona will fully focus on landing another of their priority targets, Nico Williams, from Athletic Club in the coming days.
The 22-year-old has a €58 million release clause which the club are prepared to trigger and are offering a five-year deal with a €12 million annual salary.
However, Nico is yet to make a final decision on his future as he is torn between signing for Barcelona and continuing with his boyhood club, playing alongside his brother, for one more season.
In case the Spaniard does not arrive, Barça have identified alternatives to reinforce the left flank and one such player happens to be Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman.
The French international is set to leave the Bavarian giants this summer, with the club even open to a loan departure, alerting the Blaugrana.
Barcelona have two major concerns
Barcelona admire Coman and have no doubts about his quality, after all, he has previously worked with manager Hansi Flick at Bayern Munich and played a key role in their sextuple victory.
However, according to Mundo Deportivo, despite seeing him as a viable alternative for Nico Williams, Barça have a couple of notable concerns when it comes to a move for Coman.
For starters, Barcelona are worried about the former PSG ace’s injury history – Coman missed as many as 20 matches during the 2023/24 season due to four separate injury problems.
Secondly, the Catalans also have concerns about the French international’s wages, given that they are already struggling with a lack of salary space.
As such, while Barcelona see the 28-year-old Coman as a valuable option if Nico Williams does not join, they do have some major reservations about a move for the Bayern ace.
