Barcelona interested in free transfer swoop for German international in 2025

According to a recent report from SPORT, Barcelona are still very interested in signing Joshua Kimmich as a free agent next summer, provided he remains at Bayern Munich and does not renew his current contract.

It must be noted that Just a few months ago, it seemed almost impossible that Kimmich would leave Bayern on a free transfer in the summer of 2025, but now this possibility has become quite likely.

Interestingly, Kimmich himself appears to favour Barcelona as his next destination, especially under the guidance of Hansi Flick.

Barcelona have had their eye on Kimmich for quite some time, particularly during Xavi’s final days. With only one year left in his contract, he was seen as a valuable opportunity for Barcelona.

As a result, Bayern Munich were faced with a choice: either sell him this summer or extend his contract. However, neither of these options is currently on the table.

Bayern’s valuation is a big problem

Bayern Munich value Kimmich highly, estimating his worth at around €50 million. This is a significant amount that Barcelona cannot afford at the moment, which has led to Kimmich’s name being put aside in Deco’s list of potential targets.

Nevertheless, if Kimmich completes his contract with Bayern and becomes available for free in June 2025, he would once again be of great interest to Barcelona. This scenario, which seemed highly unlikely a few weeks ago, is now looking more feasible.

In fact, the German appears ready to see out his contract as he is not impressed with Bayern’s renewal offer. They have recently implemented salary cuts, and Kimmich feels that, at 29, he deserves a more substantial contract than what is being proposed.

Foreign interest in Kimmich

In the latest developments, Paris Saint-Germain have shown interest in Kimmich. The Ligue 1 side could potentially meet both Bayern’s financial demands and Kimmich’s salary expectations.

However, Kimmich himself has ruled out a move to France, preferring to stay in one of Europe’s top leagues. If he cannot secure a move, he is prepared to continue in the Bundesliga.

Therefore, it seems likely that Kimmich will remain with Bayern Munich for at least one more season. After that, he would have the freedom to choose his next club, with Barcelona being his preferred choice.
