Barcelona lose to Real Madrid in race for prodigious youth prospect – report
Barcelona always have their sights set on exciting young talents coming through in football, be it within Spain or outside.
However, they usually come up against serious competition from bitter rivals Real Madrid leading to an El Clasico transfer battle.
Barcelona miss out on Aliaksei Mayorau
But in the latest edition of such a transfer battle, Barcelona appear to have come second best as MARCA reports that Real Madrid have beaten the Catalans in the race for Aliaksei Mayorau.
Mayorau, a footballer of Belarusian origins, has been playing in Spain for some time with Cerdanyola.
Just 12 years old, the Belarusian prodigy was one of the best players at the MIC tournament this year – one of the most prestigious competitions for youth footballers.
A number of clubs had been tailing Mayorau, with Barcelona and Real Madrid having had their eye on him for months now.
In fact, the Blaugrana tried to convince the 12-year-old to get him to join La Masia while also trying to put pressure on the Catalan Football Federation to get the deal done.
The Catalans had even invited the 12-year-old and his family to the Montjuic Stadium to watch a match a few months ago.
However, Mayorau always intended to sign for Real Madrid and has chosen La Fabrica, with all the documentation now signed after six months of intense negotiations.
