Barcelona new signing could make his debut against Sevilla – report

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is preparing to include Wojciech Szczesny in the starting lineup for the upcoming match against Sevilla on October 20th, reports Mundo Deportivo

This decision comes as Szczesny has been adapting well to his new surroundings at the club. Following his registration in the league, he received the green light to participate in the UEFA Champions League for Barcelona.

This opportunity arose due to Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s unfortunate season-ending injury, which left a gap in the goalkeeping position.

Flick wants Szczesny to take advantage of the break

During the upcoming international break, Flick intends for Szczesny to focus on regaining his peak performance. This two-week period will be crucial for him to hone his skills and prepare for the important fixture against Sevilla at Montjuic.

The match is significant, not only because it marks a chance for Szczesny to showcase his talent, but also as a lead-up to an intense schedule.

Just three days after facing Sevilla, Barcelona will face Bayern Munich at the same venue, followed by a classic encounter against Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu on October 26th.

These matches will be vital for the team as they strive to maintain a strong position in both La Liga and the Champions League.

The debate remains

However, the discussion regarding who should be Barcelona’s first-choice goalkeeper remains ongoing. Despite Szczesny’s impressive track record and potential, Flick has consistently backed Inaki Pena as the starter.

Pena has demonstrated moments of brilliance, which have made a compelling case for his position. Nonetheless, the allure of having a fully-fit Szczesny in goal adds an exciting dimension to the team’s strategy.

The club’s management is keenly observing how Flick will go through this competition for the goalkeeper spot, especially as Barcelona gear up for crucial matches in the coming weeks.

The outcome of these decisions could significantly impact the team’s performance during this critical phase of the season.
