Barcelona rival Manchester United in Martin Baturina chase, player has rejected Real Madrid

Barcelona will reportedly compete with Manchester United for 21-year-old Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Martin Baturina, who has already turned down Real Madrid.

According to an update by reputed German journalist Patrick Berger, Martin Baturina is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Dinamo Zagreb midfield prospect is also a target for Manchester United, with the Croatian giants demanding around €20-25 million to part ways with him. Meanwhile, the youngster has already snubbed Real Madrid and wants to move to the Bundesliga.

The rapid rise of Martin Baturina

Martin Baturina is one of the brightest young midfield prospects in the world. The Croat is one of several promising prodigies in his homeland, with Croatia recently producing many top-class players. A native of Split, he began his youth career in his homeland before joining Dinamo Zagreb in August 2017.

The 21-year-old broke into the first-team squad at Dinamo Zagreb a few years ago and has already turned out nearly 150 times thus far for the club, chipping in with 18 goals and 34 assists. In addition, the youngster has made seven appearances for Croatia. Meanwhile, Baturina’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester United.

A man in demand

Manchester United have already “positioned themselves” in the race to secure the Croatian midfielder’s services. The Red Devils need a top-class midfield progressor, with the Dinamo Zagreb prospect emerging as a viable long-term target. However, Manchester United face a tall order to land him.

Meanwhile, Barcelona’s interest in Martin Baturina is understandable. The Catalan giants have already aggressively bolstered their midfield unit, with academy graduates like Marc Casado, Fermin Lopez, and Marc Bernal also helping. So, it is unclear how Baturina fits into the scheme of things at FC Barcelona unless Frenkie de Jong leaves.

As for Real Madrid, Luka Modric has pushed Los Blancos to sign Baturina, who can be his long-term successor at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, the Croat will not join Real Madrid after snubbing the reigning La Liga champions, as they wanted to loan him to a Spanish club instead of integrating him into the first-team squad.

Dinamo Zagreb will demand around €20-25 million to part ways with Baturina, who wants to move to the Bundesliga when he leaves the Croatian club. So, Barcelona and Manchester United also face a tall order to land the 21-year-old midfield prospect.
