Barcelona rivalled by four of Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ in race for defensive target

Jonathan Tah was a key defensive target for Barcelona in the past summer transfer window, but a move did not materialise due to many factors, including the club’s economic turmoil.

Despite that, Barcelona have been constantly linked with a move for Tah, and are likely to make a move for the German international next summer.

Intense competition from England

However, as reported by SPORT, Barcelona’s pursuit of Tah is set to intensify, with multiple Premier League clubs keen to secure the player’s services.

The 28-year-old defender, whose contract with Leverkusen expires on June 30, 2025, will be available to negotiate freely with any club from January onwards, and several English giants are lining up to make their move.

Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Chelsea are all closely monitoring Tah’s situation, perhaps sensing a market opportunity.

Liverpool, in particular, are eyeing him as a potential solution to add depth and reliability to their backline, which has faced injury challenges in recent seasons.

Manchester United also see Tah as a valuable addition, especially with ongoing concerns over their current defensive options’ consistency.

Meanwhile, Chelsea and Tottenham are both looking to strengthen their defences, with Tah viewed as a prime candidate due to his experience and composure.

Barcelona, who emerged as a last-minute contender for Tah this past August, are determined to secure the player as a free agent once his contract expires.

The Catalan club’s interest is fueled by the support of coach Hansi Flick, who is an admirer of Tah’s defensive qualities.

However, the intense competition from Premier League clubs could complicate Barcelona’s plans next summer.
