Barcelona send out statement denying sporting director Deco exit rumors
The summer transfer window is officially shut and Barcelona have been much quieter than usual, signing only two players — Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor — and struggling once again to register contracts due to their ongoing financial issues.
Fans were excited about the prospect of a return to La Liga’s 1:1 spending rule which would allow the Blaugrana to be aggressive on the market, but that never happened and the club once again had plenty of issues bringing in new talent and selling those who are not in their plans.
Sporting director Deco received a good portion of the blame for this summer’s struggles, and an extensive report by Diario SPORT on Sunday claims that the former Barça player turned executive is “disappointed” by the broken promises made by president Joan Laporta regarding a solution to the financial problems, and is considering his exit from the club after just one year on the job because the economic issues won’t allow Deco to build a squad according to his vision.
But Barça are firing back at the report with an official statement of their own reiterating their trust in Deco and “categorically denying” the claims made by SPORT. Here’s Barça’s statement in full:
“FC Barcelona categorically denies the news that appeared this September 1 in the digital version of ‘Diario Sport’ putting in doubt the continuity of our director of football.
In response to the piece titled “Deco, disappointed, meditating his future”, FC Barcelona states that it could not be happier with the job being done by Deco an refutes this attack by ‘Diario Sport’ on the director of football precisely at the end of the transfer window.”

Laporta is expected to give his first public interview in quite a while in the next couple of days to address all of the current issues and give his side of the story, but it appears as though there might be some trouble brewing at the highest levels of the club. Again.
There’s never a dull day when it comes to FC Barcelona.
