Barcelona set date for Marc Bernal surgery after knee injury
Following the heartbreaking news of Marc Bernal’s season-ending knee injury, Barcelona are taking the necessary steps to ensure the 17-year-old midfielder gets the best help possible on his way back to action. The first step is surgery on the injury, and the date is now set.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Bernal will be operated on Wednesday, September 4 in Barcelona barring any last-second changes if the inflammation isn’t gone until then. Bernal has been walking with crutches since last week, and was seen in the stands during Barça’s win over Valladolid at the weekend.
The youngster will be operated by the same doctor that performed the surgery on Bernal’s teammate Gavi, who suffered the exact same injury while in Spain duty 10 months ago, and Barça Femení superstar Alexia Putellas, who also tore her ACL two years ago.
Assuming the surgery is a success, Bernal will begin the long and painful road to recovery that should take 9-12 months, and if there are not setbacks he is expected to be ready for the start of next season.
