Barcelona still ‘unable to predict’ when Frenkie de Jong will return from ankle injury

Barcelona reportedly remain unsure as to when Frenkie de Jong will make his recovery from his ankle injury.

De Jong has been out of action since April when he sustained an initial ankle injury in El Clasico. It was thought at the time he’d miss around 6-8 weeks.

The Dutchman looked set to return for the Netherlands at Euro 2024, and admitted he was willing to take risks, but ended up missing the tournament because of the problem.

Diario AS are now reporting that “no one at the club is currently able to predict” when De Jong will be able to play again.

There’s a suggestion that he won’t feature until after September’s international break but no concrete date has yet been pencilled in.

Dutch coach Ronald Koeman has spoken about De Jong’s ankle, claiming in July the midfielder is “worried” about about the problem and saying it was a “major injury.”

Barcelona haven’t offered any kind of update and it looks like it will be a while until we see Frenkie playing for the club again.
