Barcelona superstar set personal goal for the season after a strong start
Marc-Andre ter Stegen has had a positive start to the new season. He was recently elevated as the number-one goalkeeper for Germany, following the retirement of Manuel Neuer.
Ter Stegen did not disappoint either, producing a stellar performance in Germany’s recent 5-0 win over Hungary in the UEFA Nations League.
A strong performance against Hungary should go a long way in boosting the confidence of ter Stegen, who has already set a personal milestone for him at Barcelona this season.
Ter Stegen’s target this season
As reported by Diario SPORT, ter Stegen has set a personal milestone of winning the Zamora trophy this season.
The Zamora trophy is a prestigious award given to the best-performing La Liga goalkeeper by the end of each season.
The winner is decided on the basis of clean sheets retained per game, with a qualifying threshold of 29 matches played.
Ter Stegen won the Zamora Trophy during the 2022/23 campaign when Barcelona reclaimed the league title. He was close to winning the trophy last season as well but was pipped by Unai Simon at the end.
More competition for ter Stegen?
Ter Stegen’s main personal objective now is to reclaim the Zamora trophy this season, by securing as many clean sheets as he possibly can.
The German international has racked up only one clean sheet in four matches this season, with the lone clean sheet coming in the recent 7-0 win over Real Valladolid.
Ter Stegen’s bid to reclaim the Zamora trophy could be made even more difficult by the fact that Thibaut Courtois is back in full fitness and should cover the Real Madrid goal for the entire season, barring any injuries.
The likes of Jan Oblak, David Soria and Paulo Gazzaniga are also expected to give ter Stegen a run for his money this season.
