Barcelona unlikely to include loanee defender in deal for €15 million midfield target

After being closely linked with a move to Barcelona in the January transfer window, Aleix Garcia has once again become a hot topic at Camp Nou.

Deco has recently hinted at the desire to sign the Girona midfield star in the summer and it is fair to say that Barça have enough reasons to invest money in the Spaniard.

However, owing to FFP regulations, Barcelona are not in a position to afford Garcia’s release clause, which is thought to be in the range of €15-20 million.

In order to sweeten the deal, Barcelona are reportedly exploring the prospect of offering some of their unwanted stars in an exchange deal.

In fact, an earlier report suggested that Barcelona have identified three players who can be a part of the Aleix Garcia deal.

The players in question were Oriol Romeu, Eric Garcia and young midfielder Pablo Torre.

However, a recent report from AS has clarified that Barcelona ideally want Eric Garcia out of the equation, as far as an exchange deal for Aleix Garcia is concerned.

Garcia, 23, is currently on loan at Girona and has become an integral member of Michel’s side who have emerged as surprise contenders for the La Liga title. As such, the possibility of him being included in a deal for the midfielder was raised.

But Barcelona are more interested in exploring options for either Romeu or Torre, who is enjoying a good year at Girona.

Positive signs for Eric Garcia

The report further notes that Barcelona are witnessing positives regarding the progress of Eric Garcia, which is why the club are unlikely to trade the defender.

Formerly of Manchester City, Garcia was loaned out to Girona in the summer. Since then, he has become a key first-team regular in the Catalan club’s defence, notably helping Michel’s team attain one of the best defensive records in La Liga.

Due to Garcia’s progress at Girona, Barcelona want to consider the opinion of the new coach before they decide on the Spaniard’s future at the club.
