Barcelona urging caution with Gavi, set potential date for comeback

The big news at FC Barcelona today is undoubtedly Gavi’s return to training with the main squad, even if he only participated in part of the session.

This marks a significant milestone for the La Masia midfielder, who has been recovering from a severe injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, along with associated meniscus damage.

This injury occurred last November when he was playing for Spain last November, and he has been quietly working towards recovery for nearly eleven months.

Barcelona urging caution

Despite the boost in morale that Gavi’s return has brought to both the player and the entire Barcelona squad, the club is urging patience, reports Mundo Deportivo.

While it was suggested that the 20-year-old could receive a discharge from the medical department in just 15 days, Barça are happy to be patient and not rush things.

According to sources within the club, it is unlikely that Gavi will receive medical clearance and be included in a matchday squad until after the upcoming international break in October.

As such, Gavi still has several weeks of recovery and training before he will be ready to play again.

The second international break will fall in the second and third weeks of October. And, it will be after this period that Gavi might have the opportunity to return to action.

Barcelona play Deportivo Alaves on October 6 before going into the international break. Their first match after the hiatus is against Sevilla on October 20 before facing Bayern Munich in the Champions League a few days later.

It is around that time that Gavi could potentially make his return, even though he has started group training today.

From the club’s side, there is no rush or desire to hurry the process. The timing of the midfield gem’s return to the pitch will depend on how he feels and the daily assessments conducted by the Barcelona first-team medical staff.
