Barcelona worried as Ilkay Gundogan on target to match Pedri’s brutal record number of games

Barcelona are said to be worried about Ilkay Gundogan’s workload as the midfielder is on target to match Pedri’s brutal record number of games in 2020-2021.

Pedri played 68 times in that season and went on to struggle with a series of injury problems in the wake of the heavy schedule.

Gundogan has already played 64 times for club and country this season, leaving Barcelona concerned about his workload, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The midfielder will play again later today at Euro 2024 where Germany are set to take on Denmark in the last 16. The hosts will be favorites to progress to a quarter-final against Spain or Georgia.

If the tournament hosts go all the way to the final then Gundogan will match Pedri’s record of 68 matches. Of course, as we are now at the knockout stages of Euro 2024 there is also the possibility of extra time and penalties in matches too.
