Barcelona’s 16-year-old La Masia jewel could replace injured star in squad vs Girona
Barcelona will lock horns with local rivals Girona in La Liga tomorrow away at Estadi Montilivi in search of their fifth win of the 2024/25 season.
However, manager Hansi Flick has to deal with a fresh injury blow from the international break heading into the game, with Fermin Lopez getting sidelined for three weeks.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder suffered an injury while away with the Spanish Under-21 international team.
With the likes of Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, and Marc Bernal all unavailable, it appears that the manager is poised to call up a young jewel from La Masia for tomorrow’s match.
Guille Fernandez set for Girona clash?
Indeed, according to Mundo Deportivo, Hansi Flick could include 16-year-old prodigy Guille Fernandez in the Barcelona squad list to face Girona tomorrow.
The young midfielder was not included in Barça Atletic’s squad list for the trip to Salamanca and everything indicates that he will take the place of the injured Fermin in Flick’s list for the match against Girona.
Considered one of the great jewels of La Masia, Guille was one of the protagonists of the victory of the reserve team against Ourense last weekend, scoring a goal.
It is worth remembering that Guille was already under the orders of Flick during the pre-season tour of the United States and he also took part in the first-team training session this past Thursday and is expected to do so today too.
As such, all signs point towards him being in the squad list for tomorrow’s trip to Girona.
