Barcelona’s 18-year-old new reserve team recruit likens himself to Lamine Yamal

While Barcelona were only able to sign Dani Olmo and Pau Victor for the first team this summer, things were a bit more rosy for Barça Atletic.

The reserve team roped in several players, with two of them, Abdul Aziz Issah and David Oduro, arriving from Africa, although are expected to go through a documentation process before being cleared to play.

Nevertheless, Aziz, in his maiden media appearance as a Barça Atletic player, raised many eyebrows as he likened himself to Lamine Yamal.

“I describe myself as a player in the style of Lamine Yamal, left-footed, who likes to look for the goal and always goes on the attack,” he said (h/t SPORT).

Formerly of Ghanaian outfit Dreams SC, Aziz joined Barça Atletic on loan this summer as part of Barcelona’s scouting mission in Africa.

The Catalans are looking to unearth more talent in Africa, amid rising competition and the cost of talent in other regions such as South America.

Aziz, to that end, was an obvious target for Barça, as the young winger had made a solid impression with his dribbling and dynamism in the final third.

A winger by trade, Aziz is indeed known for his pace and explosive style of play out wide, though it remains to be seen whether or not he can follow in the footsteps of Yamal.

The teenage sensation, though, is very happy at joining Barcelona, as he heaped praise on the club and its culture.

“I’m having a very good feeling. I am very happy, I have always been a fan of this club for many years and now I am part of it. I am grateful to my agents and I want to start now,” Aziz said on joining Barcelona.

For now, the 18-year-old’s immediate will be hoping to get his documentation done as quickly as possible and make his debut for Barça Atletic.
