Barcelona’s attacking target unlikely to leave Premier League after recent statement
After a dismaying season, FC Barcelona are anticipated to be on the lookout for elite talents who can raise the ceiling of their offensive line.
Of particular focus is the left-wing position, given that Barça lacks a one-versus-one specialist to destabilize defences.
Players from Liverpool are particularly appealing to the club. Alongside considering Darwin Nunez as a possible replacement for Lewandowski, Barcelona had also set their sights on Luis Diaz.
Diaz distant from Barcelona
However, recent developments suggest that the tricky winger’s future is distant from Barcelona.
Indeed, Diaz voiced his excitement about Liverpool and his delight with the squad in an interview with the club’s media recently.
“Coming to this great club that is Liverpool leaves you with a lot of learning. You learn more and more to be professional, to be a better person, to be a good teammate and a good guy.
“The truth is that I am very happy to be here. Great years are coming for the club, I have no doubt about that,” he said (h/t Mundo Deportivo).
Despite Diaz’s father mentioning last year that the player dreams of wearing the Blaugrana jersey, it appears he is focused on achieving success with the Merseyside team for now.
Even if the Catalans opt to pursue Diaz’s signature, a transfer would not be easy to come by due to their financial situation.
After all, Liverpool acquired Luis Diaz from Porto in January 2022 for a significant sum of €43 million, plus an additional €14 million in potential add-ons.
Barcelona will keep their eyes peeled for other options
While Diaz’s arrival looks unlikely, names like Nico Williams, Dani Olmo, Alex Baena, and Xavi Simons continue to be in Barcelona’s crosshairs.
It remains to be seen who Barcelona ends up signing, but they are certainly in the market for a forward who can inject creativity and dynamism into their attack.
