Barcelona’s Ferran Torres given full backing by Spain coach Luis de la Fuente
Spain boss Luis de la Fuente was full of praise for Barcelona’s Ferran Torres after he came off the bench to grab a goal and an assist in Sunday’s win over Switzerland.
Torres replaced Lamine Yamal at half-time of the match in Geneva and played an important role as La Roja ran out 4-1 winners.
De la Fuente said after the match that he has no doubts whatsover over Torres’ quality and his place in the squad.
“We know him very well, he will generate these doubts for other colleagues [referring to journalists], but he doesn’t generate the slightest doubt for me,” he said.
“I’ve been with Ferran since he was sixteen and I know what he’s going to give us. In addition, he has become one of the captains this week, and at his age he is already one of the current footballers who has played the most games with the national team.
“He is a very popular player and sometimes, unfortunately and like some other players, little recognized.”
Ferran also grabbed a goal and an assist last time out for Barcelona in the 7-0 win over Real Valladolid after coming on as a substitute in the second half.
