Bayern chief offers update on Joshua Kimmich’s future amid Barcelona transfer talk
Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has offered an update on Joshua Kimmich’s future at the club as he heads towards the end of his current contract.
Kimmich has been regularly linked with a move to Barcelona in recent months, with Hansi Flick’s arrival at the club ensuring this particular rumor is not going anywhere.
Eberl says he wants Kimmich to stay, and become club captain, but knows that contract talks with be stressful.
“We have two big figures in Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller who will leave us at some point in the foreseeable future due to their age. So we need new big figures.” he told BR 24.
“Joshua Kimmich, with his performances, his willingness, his heart, is predestined for that. It’s not for nothing that he’s captain of the German national team.
“He should be the captain of Bayern Munich of the future. But first we have to extend the contract, which will be exhausting enough.”
It remains to be seen what Kimmich will do next year and whether he will stay at Bayern or look to move on a free transfer and enjoy a new challenge.
