FC Barcelona is coming off a dominant 5-0 win over Young Boys in its last Champions League match on Oct. 1. Robert Lewandowski led the way with a pair of goals in the victory, helping the team shake off its 2-1 loss to Monaco.
Since that match, in La Liga, it blanked Deportivo Alavés 3-0 and on Oct. 20 routed Sevilla 5-1 to open a three-point gap on Real Madrid ahead of this weekend’s Spanish league “clasico.”

Lewandowski scored twice and Pedri and Pablo Torre also scored for Barcelona in the win over Sevilla, restoring its lead of La Liga a day after second-place Madrid won 2-1 at Celta Vigo.
Barcelona midfielder Gavi came off the bench to replace Pedri in the 83rd minute, making his return to action nearly a year after a serious knee injury.
“I had been dreaming about this moment for several months,” Gavi told reporters. “It’s tough to watch from the outside. I have to enjoy every moment. I feel very lucky to be here today.”
Lewandowski scored twice in the first half against Sevilla, first by converting a 24th-minute penalty kick and then by finding the net from close range in the 39th. The Poland striker was coming off a hat trick at Alaves and has been a scoring machine so far this season, with 14 goals in 11 matches in all competitions this season.
Barcelona has outscored its league opponents 33-10 this season.
FC Bayern Munich is coming off a 1-0 loss to Aston Villa in the team’s last Champions League match after defeating Dinamo Zagreb 9-2 in its first match of the competition.
Its most recent match had a good and bad outcome.
Harry Kane ended his brief goal drought with a hat trick in a 4-0 win over Stuttgart in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Kane, who hadn’t scored in four games — three for Bayern and one for England — missed good chances before finally ending his barren spell with a shot from distance in the 57th minute. He scored his second one four minutes later and then missed another good chance before sealing his hat trick in the 80th with the rebound from a João Palhinha effort.
On the down side, midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovic had to undergo surgery after breaking his collarbone in the match.
Pavlovic went off injured in the eighth minute after landing heavily on his shoulder and the injury is set to rule out the Germany international for “the coming weeks,” the club said.
It’s the latest setback for the 20-year-old midfielder, considered one of Germany’s brightest young talents. Pavlovic was part of the Germany squad for Euro 2024 but was ruled out with illness just four days before the tournament began, according to The Associated Press.
