Bayern Munich expect to recover injured key duo in time for Barcelona clash
Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany is optimistic about the potential return of Dayot Upamecano and Jamal Musiala for their upcoming clash against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League, reports Mundo Deportivo.
The match is set to take place at Montjuic, and both players have been working hard to regain fitness following injuries.
Musiala has recently resumed training on his own with Bayern Munich, just one week ahead of the crucial Champions League encounter.
His return to training was cautious; he engaged in nearly 15 minutes of individual drills before moving on to some light running exercises.
What happened to Musiala?
Prior to this, he had been sidelined for two weeks due to hip issues that kept him from participating in several key matches.
These included the Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt and two Nations League fixtures with the German national team against Hungary and the Netherlands.
The German team managed to secure victories in both matches, successfully qualifying for the quarter-finals, but Musiala’s absence was felt.
While there is still uncertainty regarding his fitness for Bayern’s league match against Stuttgart on Saturday, he remains hopeful that he will be ready for the more significant challenge posed by Barcelona on Wednesday.
What about Upamecano?
On the other hand, Dayot Upamecano has also been focusing on his recovery. He has been undergoing individual training to heal from a right thigh injury that he sustained during the match against Frankfurt.
This injury prevented him from playing during the recent international break with the French national team.
Reports indicate that Kompany feels more confident about Upamecano’s chances of returning to the squad for the Stuttgart match compared to Musiala’s situation.
As Bayern Munich prepare for this critical match against Barcelona, the potential return of both Upamecano and Musiala could significantly impact their performance in the Champions League.
