Daily Schmankerl: Manchester United a legitimate option for Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt; Kingsley Coman won’t move to Türkiye; FC Barcelona, Bayern in, while Manchester City is out on Dani Olmo; Liverpool chasing winger; and MORE!

Bayern Munich center-back Matthijs de Ligt has to be confused as to why he seems to be the odd man out on the backline.

All De Ligt did is outperform his peers and team with Eric Dier to be one of the most formidable pairings in all of Europe by the end of last season. Now, though, De Ligt is probably keeping one eye on possibilities for a move and Manchester United could be in play:

Understand Matthijs de Ligt remains a transfer target for Manchester United this summer as revealed and confirmed again!

The 24 y/o is one of many names being discussed internally alongside Jarrad Branthwaite and Leny Yoro.

Erik ten Hag is still a great admirer of De Ligt who can leave Bayern this summer with a suitable offer. No offer from ManUtd yet. Concrete talks between Bayern and De Ligt will take place after the Euros.

Price valuation from #MUFC for De Ligt is around €50m at this stage.

Bayern Munich should reconsider its stance on De Ligt before it is too late.

FC Barcelona is in on RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo and wants to bring him to Catalonia:

Barcelona are working hard to secure the signing of RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo, who came through the club’s academy system.

Per The Athletic (as captured by 90Min.com), Manchester City has bowed out of the competition for Olmo:

Manchester City have previously held talks regarding a move for Olmo, though these discussions were not advanced.

Fabrizio Romano also reported that Bayern Munich was keeping an eye on Olmo and reiterated the final date to trigger Olmo’s release clause (via @iMiaSanMia):

Bayern are still monitoring Dani Olmo. €60m release clause valid until July 15.

However, Olmo still sits behind Paris Saint-Germain’s Xavi Simons on Bayern Munich’s transfer pecking order (via @iMiaSanMia):

Max Eberl’s biggest transfer target is Xavi Simons. If the deal doesn’t work out, Dani Olmo could then be back on the focus of the club.

For Germany, a successful EURO 2024 Group Stage was just the first milestone in what former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann is hoping is a long journey for the tournament.

In drawing Denmark for the Round of 16, the German national team should be well-poised to advance, but the Danes have a way of mucking a game up — and if Germany falls victim to that tactic, it could make for a dangerous (and probably boring) contest.

Regardless, most are expecting the hosts to make it through to the quarterfinal round, but it might not be easy. Let’s take a look at what is on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Preview Show:

  • A recap of the results from the Group Stage for both teams.
  • Where Germany stands heading into the knockout rounds.
  • How many starters will be different for Germany given the injury to Antonio Rüdiger and the suspension to Jonathan Tah?
  • Will Niclas Füllkrug get the starting nod?
  • A guess at Julian Nagelsmann’s lineup.
  • A prediction on the match.

Fenerbahçe SK has interest in Bayern Munich attacker Kingsley Coman, but the Frenchman — allegedly — has no interest in a move to Türkiye:

Kingsley #Coman is one of Fenerbahce‘s dream targets this transfer window!

José Mourinho would love to sign the 28 y/o winger who can leave FC Bayern this summer with a suitable offer.

@Fenerbahce have inquired about him.

However, a transfer is very unlikely because Coman has other plans.

Switzerland midfielder and new VfB Stuttgart signing Fabian Rieder recently admitted he is a Bayern Munich fan.

“I’ve always followed Bayern because my favourite players have always played there, first Toni Kroos then Thiago Alcantara. I’ve also always admired Joshua Kimmich. So I’m a bit of a Bayern sympathizer, if you can say that. But of course I’m going to give everything for Stuttgart,” said Rieder.

In the middle of the offseason, things should be slowing down, but for Bayern Munich and German national team fans, it was been, well, pretty darn wild.

The Bavarians are in the middle of what figures to be a crazy transfer period, while Germany has already looked better in a tourney than it has at any point since that last run under Joachim Löw at EURO 2020 (played in 2021) or maybe the first 10 games under Hansi Flick:

Now, though, it’s a new day for both Bayern Munich and Germany:

  • Chuck is back in the saddle! Find out what he has been up to and why he has been off the airwaves for a spell.
  • Germany put itself in a good position to consider this tourney run a success.
  • It is still early, but Chuck does not like the direction of Bayern Munich’s New World Order in the front office.
  • Are three center-backs really up for sale?
  • Fans who wanted change are going to get exactly what they were asking for.
  • Selling Kingsley Coman might not be easy.
  • Joshua Kimmich seems likely to leave this summer (or maybe in 2025), while Leon Goretzka and Serge Gnabry could just get frozen out until they want to leave.

Chelsea FC, Manchester United, and West Ham United are keeping a very close on on Lille attacker and Canada international Jonathan David.

In recent years, David has been linked to Bayern Munich several times, but there has been nothing linking the Bavarians to the 24-year-old at this stage:

| ⚒️ Chelsea and West Ham are seriously interested in Jonathan #David!

#CFC have inquired about the 24 y/o top striker from Lille in recent days. #WHUFC have also gathered information. He’s also on the shortlist of ManUtd. A move to the Premier League is currently the most likely.

David, on the verge to leave Lille this summer with one year left on his contract. Price valuation at this stage: €20-25m!

Liverpool FC is eyeing Nico Williams, who — at one point — was on Bayern Munich:

Liverpool lead the race to sign Athletic Club and Spain winger Nico Williams and are in discussions over a deal. Barcelona are also heavily interested but cannot afford a deal for the 21-year-old right now.

Per Fichajes (as captured by 90Min.com), Liverpool also has Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz on its radar as well:

Williams is not the only forward from La Liga that Liverpool are eyeing, with Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz also a target for the Reds. Arne Slot’s side are willing to pay a little over £40m for the Morocco international.

Former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann did not make any changes going into the final game of the EURO 2024 group stage against Switzerland. Germany struggled to a 1-1 draw. Meanwhile Bayern seems to be set to sign Michael Olise while Joshua Kimmich might leave. We talk about these topics and the following in this podcast:

  • A closer look at the performances of several players for Germany today including Joshua Kimmich and Jonathan Tah
  • A closer look at the performance of the back four
  • Cyler and Samrin struggle to really rate Antonio Rüdiger’s performance
  • Should Niklas Füllkrug start ahead of Kai Havertz?
  • Will Julian Nagelsmann change the setup going into the Round of 16?
  • Rating Switzerland’s performance
  • Cyler and Samrin have differing opinions on Michael Olise and what he would add to Bayern
  • Reflections on a possible Joshua Kimmich departure from Bayern
