FC Barcelona and Ronaldinho open Walk of Stars in Castelldefels

Castelldefels has its Walk of Stars (Passeig de les Estrelles), modelled on the one in Hollywood. The coastal town just south of Barcelona opened the new feature this Saturday morning with several local dignitaries in attendance, and two of the first three to inaugurate their stars were none other than FC Barcelona and Ronaldinho, the other being the Castelldefels Town Council itself.

Almost 100 years of kinship

The event in Plaça de les Palmeres was also attended by club president Joan Laporta, who together with the town mayor Manu Reyes stressed the long relationship between Barça and Castelldefels, which began when Arcadi Balaguer, blaugrana president from 1925 to 1929, oversaw the installation of the first electrical connections and public lighting in his hometown.

This was one of the reasons why Castelldefels Town Council was keen for FC Barcelona to be among the first recipients of a star, but the town is also a popular place for players and staff, including Laporta himself, to take a short break. Indeed a huge number of players over the years have chosen to set up home there.

Ronaldinho was one of those. In his five years at Barça he lived in Castelldefels and forged a strong relationship with the local populace. And now his name is among the first to appear in the brand new Walk of Fame, which will be honouring all kinds of other people from the worlds of art, culture, science, music and many more.

Statement by Joan Laporta

“Castelldefels is part of my childhood and I have fond memories of this town. And Ronaldinho is someone to whom we are eternally grateful for being the person who put a smile back on Barça faces. It is a privilege and honour to be here today and to see him get a star on the Walk of Stars.”

Statement by Ronaldinho

“It is a pleasure to be at this tribute today Castelldefels and me enjoyed many stories together. It has continued to be my home for many years. Although I have stopped playing, I still feel the warmth of the people of Castelldefels.”

Statement by the Mayor of Castelldefels, Manu Reyes

“Castelldefels is the place where the stars sleep, and we want to become the Hollywood of Southern Europe. This Walk of Fame will feature other celebrities from the realms of culture, music, art and innovation.”
