FC Barcelona Head Coach Hansi Flick Receives New First Team Player

FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick will receive a new first team player according to Catalunya Radio, which cited anonymous sources.

Succeeding fired club legend Xavi Hernandez, Hansi Flick was announced as Barca’s new manager at the end of May.

Given the club’s delicate financial predicament, the German has been unable to enjoy seeing the Catalans make purchases in the transfer market thus far.

Spain’s breakout Euro 2024 star Nico Williams and Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino have both been linked to the Blaugrana, but it seems that Barca will need to rely on player sales to make those potential transfers happen and also return to the 1:1 rule under Financial Fair Play limits.

According to SPORT, Ronald Araujo has been touted as one heavyweight that could potentially be on his way out of Catalonia if he doesn’t renew his contract, with Raphinha also constantly attracting interest from Saudi Arabia and the Premier League.

Back to fresh acquisitions, Gavi and Marc Casado have been reported as the only new “signings” made in the Flick era.

Gavi is working hard to be fit for next season after suffering an ACL rupture while on international duty with Spain last November, while Casado could offer Flick pivot options after renewing his contract.

This week, Catalunya Radio reports that Flick will receive another first team player in Alex Valle.

Last term, the Badalona native went out on loan to Levante where he played 29 matches and “earned the right to return to Barca” according to SPORT.

The Catalan newspaper explains that Xavi planned on promoting the 20-year-old ahead of 2024/2025, but that is a development that will still unfold and which has already been communicated to the player’s camp by the club.

SPORT reveals that the sport management department’s plan is to have Valle and fellow La Masia graduate Alejandro Balde battle for minutes at left back under Flick, and they could also receive competition from right backs Hector Fort and Joao Cancelo if the latter’s loan move from Manchester City is made permanent.

Like Gavi, Balde also had to undergo a season-ending surgery at the turn of 2024 but has been seen back in training with Ansu Fati this week.
