FC Barcelona Legend Rivaldo Supports Real Madrid Star Rodrygo
FC Barcelona legend Rivaldo offered support to his under fire compatriot Rodrygo by saying that he is on the same level as the likes of Real Madrid teammates Kylian Mbappe in quotes picked up by AS.
SPORT reported on Tuesday how Los Blancos and its fans are “disappointed” with the behaviour of the former Santos product.
Rodrygo has been involved in a number of faux paus this year, with his latest a deleted message that claimed he should be in the same conversation as Jude Bellingham, Mbappe and Vinicius Jr – who are being collectively referred to as the ‘BMV’ by the media.
“Last week they talked about the trio of Bellingham, Mbappe and Vini, but to these acronyms they are going to have to add the ‘R’ of Rodrygo,” Rodrygo wrote in a WhatsApp text.
“We have the attacking quartet and the rest of the team. Each one has its importance in the matches and will demonstrate its value in the different competitions in which we will participate,” he added.
The 23-year-old has a backer in Rivaldo, though, who said that a “very important player at Real Madrid”, who “shouldn’t fall behind any of his attacking teammates”, has “plenty of reasons to complain” and respond to the press and people who only talk about the mentioned trident.
“Rodrygo is at the same level as Mbappe, Bellingham or Vinicius. He is absolutely right to talk about the issue because he is at that level,” Rivaldo further insisted.
“He’s a striker who’s been making the difference for years at a club like Real Madrid. And that his importance is not talked about seems to me a great injustice. Of course, when you refer to Real Madrid, you will always want the players to be motivated and attract attention, but Rodrygo has nothing [inferior] from his teammates,” the 2002 World Cup winner reiterated.
Scoring Madrid’s only goal of the 2024/2025 La Liga season thus far, in a 1-1 draw with Mallorca last weekend, Rodrygo is likely to again line up alongside the BMV on Sunday afternoon when Mbappe makes his Bernabeu debut against Valladolid.
