FC Barcelona Reaches Agreement With Top Transfer Target
FC Barcelona has reached an agreement with RB Leipzig forward Dani Olmo according to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, who cited anonymous sources when reporting an exclusive on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Nico Williams has been President Joan Laporta’s most desired potential acquisition for a few weeks now, but increased competition from Paris Saint-Germain for the breakout Spain star at Euro 2024 is complicating the quest to boast both him and Lamine Yamal on either wing as La Roja did so effectively in Germany this summer.
Simultaneously, however, Barca has also pushed to sign another hero from the campaign that saw La Roja become continental champions for a record fourth time.
While Nico scored his country’s opening goal against England in the final as part of a 2-1 triumph, after being assisted by Lamine, Olmo’s clearance off the line towards the death was just as important as any strike at the other end.
The former La Masia product simultaneously finished the continental competition as a joint Golden Boot winner, and Barca continues to try and bring him home from RB Leipzig.
Over the past couple of days, SPORT and Mundo Deportivo, who both cited anonymous sources, reported that Barca would improve its offer to Leipzig for Olmo.
The former said that the proposal entails $54 million (€50 million) in fixed money and around $16.2 million (€15 million) in variables, but MD had the package down as consisting of a fixed $50.7 million (€47 million) plus $3.2 million (€3 million) in add-ons.
If Barca wins certain titles, another $10.8 million (€10 million) would also come the Bundesliga club’s way making a total of $64.7 million (€60 million) that it reportedly wants for Olmo.
In any case, SPORT subsequently reported that Leipzig would turn down the fresh bid “without hesitation”, though anonymous Barca sources were “confident that there can be significant progress over the next few days”.
According to Romano, that progress has already become a reality – or at least with Olmo directly it has.
He has reportedly agreed to join the Blaugrana on a six-year contract until mid-2030, which pushes the La Liga giant to indeed send an improved offer to Leipzig.
Romano explains that this will consist of “€55 million ($59.3 million) guaranteed, €4 million ($4.3 million) easy add-ons, [and] €3 million ($3.3 million) difficult add-ons”, and it now remains to be seen if the Germans finally cave in.
