FC Barcelona Will Make New Offer For Bayern Munich Star

FC Barcelona will make a new offer for a Bayern Munich star once managed by its current head coach Hansi Flick according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources.

Flick and Joshua Kimmich won a treble together in 2019/2020 which later became a sextuple.

Yet interest in the midfielder, who is also able to play as a right back, from Barca began on the watch of Flick’s fired predecessor Xavi Hernandez last summer.

With Sergio Busquets already announcing he would leave the club after the Blaugrana won its first La Liga title in four years, Xavi looked to replace him with either Kimmich or Martin Zubimendi.

Cash-strapped Barca couldn’t afford either man, however, and had to settle for a cut-rate Oriol Romeu who started the season strongly yet was soon confined to the bench once injuries and a lack of confidence affected his performances.

Xavi commenting publicly about Barca’s economic plight, and how it affects being able to keep up with bitter rivals Real Madrid, ended up resulting in his dismissal then eventual replacement by Flick.

Interest remains a constant in Kimmich even with a new face in the dugout – and one that is more than familiar to the Bayern star.

Last week, before Flick was announced, SPORT reported that Kimmich had rejected Barca’s first proposal.

Now, according to the same outlet, citing anonymous sources, the Catalans will go on the offensive to try and land the 29-year-old by making an improved offer.

President Joan Laporta hasn’t been deterred by Kimmich rejecting Barca’s first approach, which he finds to be normal in business.

And though the Euros will now be the player’s top priority, Laporta and Sporting Director Deco will work on getting Barca’s books in order to try and convince him to switch allegiances.

Kimmich holds all the cards given that come June 30 he will have just one year left on his current contract.

Bayern will not stand in his way if he wants to leave, but won’t let one of its star players walk for free to a continental rival.

To this end, Kimmich might cost something around the $50 million mark as seen when Robert Lewandowski was in a similar position two years ago and ended up forcing his move to Barca.
