Fermin Lopez has ‘same injury’ that Barcelona team-mate Pedri suffered after marathon season
Fermin Lopez has been ruled out of action for another three weeks after picking up a fresh injury on his return to Barcelona training this week after a spell out with a different issue.
Perhaps worryingly for Barcelona, Fermin has been diagnosed with the same problem that Pedri suffered after his marathon season in 2020-21, according to SER.
Pedri famously played 73 games during that campaign after starring for Barcelona and then featuring for Spain at the Euros and the Olympics.
Fermin has just come off a similar season. He hasn’t played quite that amount of games but has had barely any rest.
He broke into the first team last season and then headed to Germany for the Euros and then went to France and won gold at the Paris Olympics.
Barcelona will be hoping that Fermin does not go on to suffer the same injury issues that have plagued Pedri over recent seasons.
The situation will also highlight concerns once again about the lack of rest for top players, particularly for Barcelona who have seen Fermin, Pedri and Gavi all suffer injuries on international duty with Spain.
