Ferran Torres refused Olympic call-up with Spain to focus on Barcelona

Barcelona forward Ferran Torres reportedly refused the chance to play for Spain at the Paris Olympics as he wanted to focus on the new season with his club.

Torres is part of the Spain squad at Euro 2024 and scored the only goal of the game against Albania last time out as La Roja made it three wins out of three.

Spain had hoped to include Torres in their squad for the Olympics but have been turned down by the forward, according to Marca.

The report claims Torres wanted to go but made the difficult decision to say no because he knew his appearance would be a problem for Barca.

Barcelona trio Pau Cubarsi, Fermin Lopez and Eric Garcia have been called into the squad for the tournament in France and so will miss pre-season.

New manager Hansi Flick had been eager to have his full squad available for the start of pre-season as he wants a strong start to the campaign.

Torres knows he is not guaranteed a place in his starting XI but looks to be doing all he can to try and force his way into Flick’s thinking.
