Frenkie de Jong rules out ankle surgery, set to return to Barcelona training
Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong has ruled out the possibility of undergoing surgery on his problematic ankle injury and is hoping to return to training imminently.
De Jong has been out since April with his current ankle issue, with Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman admitting it’s a “worrying situation.”
However, De Jong is hoping to be available again soon, according to Relevo. The Dutchman has ruled out going under the knife, for the time being, and could be back out with his team-mates next week.
Yet the report warns that “there is a risk” that De Jong could suffer a recurrence of his injury as the “area has weakened a lot and has lost stability.”
Hansi Flick will hope that De Jong can return unscathed, particularly as he is dealing with a host of injury problems at present in midfield. Marc Bernal and Fermin Lopez have become the latest players ruled out and join Gavi and De Jong in being sidelined.
