Hansi Flick asked Barcelona not to sell Frenkie de Jong – report
FC Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is said to be such a fan of Frenkie de Jong that he told the sporting director not to sell the midfielder, as per a new report.
Supposedly, Flick is so impressed by De Jong that he told the club’s executives not only not to sell De Jong, but to not worry about signing Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad. He wound up going to Arsenal FC instead.
Flick is said to want to put De Jong in the double pivot, the position he originally played when he first gained fame with Ajax AFC. At Barcelona, he has played either as a single pivot, or as a central midfielder in a midfield three.
Rumors keep linking De Jong with a sale, but there are some that think that Flick will not sanction such a move. The manager is said to be counting down the days until De Jong fully recovers from a troublesome ankle injury that kept him out of UEFA Euro 2024. If he does stay, Barça want him to renew his contract by the end of the year.
