Ilkay Gundogan reveals what he admires about Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams

Ilkay Gundogan has been chatting about Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams ahead of Friday’s quarter-final clash between Spain and Germany at Euro 2024.

The tie sees two of the favourites for glory meet, with Gundogan hoping he can inspire the hosts to a place in the last four.

Yet it will be a tough ask against a lively Spain side who have impressed in Germany, particularly with Yamal and Williams playing starring roles in attack.

Here’s what Gundogan thinks of the two youngsters.

“[Yamal] is a fantastic player at 16, he could be 20 or 21 and he’d still be the same. He’s arguably one of the most talented young players around right now. I’ve really enjoyed him this season, he’s got a great future ahead of him. It will be important to protect him from the pressure that’s building up around him,” he told Mundo Deportivo.

“He is also very talented and has a bold approach to the game which I also see in Lamine. These are young players who seemingly play without pressure on the big stage, and to me that is something to admire. I wish I had that kind of attitude at his age!”

Gundogan could end up playing alongside both players at Barcelona next season, with Williams having emerged as a top target for the Catalans.

Meanwhile, the winner of the tie between the two sides will make it to the semi-finals and a clash with either Portugal or France.
