Inigo Martinez sends warning to Barcelona ahead of Champions League tie with Brest
Inigo Martinez has warned his Barcelona team-mates they can’t afford to relax against French side Brest in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Barca come into the match after a disappointing draw with Celta last time out, which Martinez admits he found hard to take, and has urged his team-mates not to relax against Brest.
“I found it hard to digest what happened in Vigo, it was a game that we had under control, so to speak, and in which we let two vital points slip away. It’s normal that the manager and the team were angry, these are things that happen in football, you can’t blame anyone, but we let an opportunity slip away,” he told reporters.
“It will be a match against an opponent who is physically very tough and who is doing very well in the Champions League, even though they are in the middle of the table in Ligue 1. If we relax, we could pay dearly for it. It’s a nice game to play, it’s also difficult, but we hope the team plays at its level.
“Brest is doing a great job, they haven’t lost a single game for nothing, they are physically a prodigy, they come out very well on the counterattack.”
Brest are in fourth place in the Champions League standings and yet to taste defeat in the competition so far but warmed up for the match with a 3-2 Ligue defeat to Monaco.
